Emmy Award winning television, film, and stage actor, Ian Buchanan, stars as noted psychiatrist Dr. James Warwick on The Bold and the Beautiful.
Born in Hamilton, Scotland, Buchanan ventured to New York where he worked both on stage and in various television shows, such as Quantum Leap, Room For Romance, The Flash, Columbo and The Equalizer. He quickly landed a role on the daytime drama, General Hospital, where he portrayed Duke Lavery for three years before leaving the show to join the cast of the The Gary Shandling Show. For two years he played Gary's next door neighbor, Ian.
After meeting director David Lynch while taping a Calvin Klein commercial opposite Lara Flynn Boyle, Buchanan was asked to join the cast of Twin Peaks, as the pompous Richard Tremayne. As Twin Peaks came to an end, Lynch called upon Buchanan to portray Lester Guy, on the ABC series On the Air.
Later, Buchanan portrayed Peter Lawford in the USA Networks movie, Bobby & Marilyn, and guest starred on the hit television series The Nanny and NYPD Blue. His other film credits include Double Exposure, The Cool Surface and The Seventh Sign. He also starred as Psychiatrist Martin Dysart in a performance of Equus, a role in which he received a Los Angeles Drama-Logue Award. Buchanan’s stage performances include The Maids, Losing Venice, The Heiress and Love and Anger. He has received Outstanding Supporting Actor nominations for the 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 Emmy Awards. In May of 1997, Buchanan won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor.
Since leaving The Bold and the Beautiful, Buchanan graced the big screen in the blockbuster hit Panic Room, co-starring with Jody Foster and Kristin Stewart. He has guest starred on such hit shows as Stargate SG-1, Charmed, Alias, and Nip/Tuck.
Prior to acting, Ian enjoyed a successful international modeling career, which included his work as personal fitting model for Giorgio Armani and his designs.
Ian lives in Los Angeles and enjoys relaxing at home with a good book, a brisk walk (part of his daily routine) or hitting the courts for a few sets of tennis. He has remained a vegetarian for most of his life.
Ian celebrates his birthday on June 16. He stands 6' tall, has black hair, and green eyes.
