Thanksgiving Day is a very important holiday for Americans. It is where families gather to celebrate abundance and share the food and the good will. Traditionally all gather around a classic turkey, with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and the good food that is brought by the family to the meal.
This comes from the real events in 1623, where the pilgrims who came across on the Mayflower and many died on the way and during the first year. After making friendships with the Native Americans, a group of Pilgrims survived and thrived with the next harvest. Thanksgiving is a sharing of that harvest, and thanking God for all his good gifts.
Daniel McVicar has spent much time in Italy, which has become his second home. This will be his sixth Thanksgiving spent looking for pumpkin pie, and wanting to share the holiday with his friends.
He decided that this year he wanted to take his gratitude and share it in a real way, and along with his fiancé Dr. Virginia De Agostini, is creating the “Thanks Dinner” in Turin to benefit the Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul and their good wok helping the needy, and serving up an incredible 800 meals a day in Turin.
The abundance of Thanksgiving will be celebrated in a special way this November 26th at Eataly in Turin with a Thanksgiving Benefit Dinner. The spirit of the very precious American holiday will be part of the event, with the evening benefiting the less fortunate.
This year all the proceeds will go to help Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in Turin. Thanks to their enormous work and sacrifice, many locals are helped with meals, health services and other guidance. The good sisters prepare 800 meals a day for the less fortunate, and the abundance of the evening will be used to benefit this program.
This evening will be very special for another reason. The Chef of Honor is Marc Lanteri of the new restaurant “Il Baluardo” di Mondovi’. Marc Lanteri is a top level chef who received the great honor of a Michelin star at his previous restaurant. Seats are limited, so we recommend that you reserve as soon as possible and enjoy an American feast done Italian style with a gathering of great friends and people, a top chef, and the proceeds going to a very worthy cause.
