In August of this past year, my best friend, Frank, and I traveled to Hollywood California to The Bold and the Beautiful 20th Anniversary Fan Luncheon. It was a dream come true for the both of us, infact several times when meeting the cast, I literally broke down in tears. Here I am with my favorite B&B cast mate, Hunter Tylo.
My name is Chris Gartland and I live in Somerville, MA, just outside Boston, MA. I have been a loyal fan of Bold and the Beautiful since it first started 20 years ago. My grandmother was an avid fan of both Bold and the Beautiful and Young and the Restless and she got me "hooked" on both of these incredible soap operas. When, my mother, had a stroke in her early 60's, she too found great entertainment in watching these shows. I would tape Bold and the Beautiful while I was at work and each evening, my mother and I would sit down and watch our soaps together, and when they were over than the real conversations about the characters would take us into the late hours of the night. This was a great help to my mother during her recovery - it was entertainment and a great diversion from the disabilities she suffered as a result of the stroke.
In 1998, I met Frank Bellino, who is going to be the Fan of the Month for February 2008. We realized right away that both of us were loyal fans of both The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. We have become the best of friends and we share on a daily basis the going on's of these soaps.
My favorite cast mate is Hunter Tylo, she most beautiful, and a fine actress in her portrayal of Taylor Hayes Forrester. Watching her on B&B, is watching acting at its best.
In the year 2001, I read "Making a Miracle", by Hunter Tylo, an honest book of the many many challenges, that Hunter Tylo faced, including her daughter Katya's rare eye cancer. Hunter describes her faith in God, which sustained her through these dark moments in her life. She shared her relationship with God honestly and I was deeply inspired by her acceptance of her self, the good parts and those parts of herself, that were "still a work in progress" and her certainty that she was loved by God just as she was. At this time in my life, my mother had suffered a severe brain hemorrhage and was totally disabled and my brother and I took her home to care for her. Hunter's book was spiritual food for me at a time that my own faith was being stretched. In August of this year, my friend Frank Bellino and I traveled to Hollywood, CA to The Bold and Beautiful 20th Anniversary Fan Luncheon and I had the honor of meeting in person, this incredible woman and being able to thank her for the gift that she brought to me. She embraced me and signed her book with very sincere words that will always remain in my heart.
I want to thank Cathy Tomas for this great honor as Fan of the Month and I dedicate this to my mother, Rose Gartland, whose faith and courage are beyond what I have ever seen. And also I dedicate this to Hunter Tylo, in particularly at this time, where she is grieving the tragic loss of her son, Michael. My thoughts and prayers are with you Hunter and your family.
